We are thrilled to welcome @gnome and @kde who, like @EclipseFdn, have joined us as Associate Members 🚀

Associate Members are FOSS foundations, nonprofits, and other communities that share our values, such as: software freedom, open source, open standards, privacy, and decentralization.

Like our other members, we have allocated several seats on our Governing Board for Associate Members, and they get to be part of how Matrix is governed.

Is Automattic, the for-profit behind WordPress and Tumblr (and now Beeper), still on your board?

@lo__ Automattic has been a big supporter, but has not been involved in any boards relating to the Foundation.

sorry, I might have jumped into conflating things too quickly. That article says Beeper is your earliest board member. Are they (now a subsidiary of Automattic) still on your board?
in reply to __ol

@lo__ No worries! Beeper, like other members, is eligible to nominate and vote in our Governing Board elections but we haven't held those yet. Our first election season is this April-June, with nomination period beginning next Saturday.

@err931 You may find it more difficult to get adoption or recruit contributors if you don't use an OSI approved license, and we are deliberately constrained to only promoting open source licensed software.

But we would hope that no one would mistreat you, regardless of your license choice.
