I find it so strange to see Jack's art pop up on here. I know his mum as we did a course together. Met Jack when he was about 10 and he was always tinkering with things.. I gave him a load of old wine corks to make something with. Small world..
@hallenbeck 😄 … I’ll take my camera out in a few weeks and get some shots. I’m going to make the most of each walk while it’s still wet enough to get the saplings in. In a few weeks’ time it’ll probably be too late to plant any more. 👍
(Because yesterday we saw a duck nesting so I’d hoped to capture it on film today but she wasn’t there this time, only the eggs. Hopefully will capture her tomorrow.)
It’s not easy to see the saplings in all of the shots as some are small and some hidden in foliage but the descriptions in the four images below should help you pinpoint them.
I’ve been planting them in ‘dead’ gaps, mostly individually or a few per space, rather than all in one place.
@hallenbeck Yes, we are very lucky to have ended up here. Particularly at this time of year. On today’s walk we saw deer, egrets, ducks and an owl (as well as lots of smaller birds). No swans or geese on view today but a few around at the mo too.
@hallenbeck Sadly neither the duck nor the eggs remained yesterday. I think Sly and the Family Fox might have had a nice supper on Thursday. She had chosen quite an accessible spot for them so I thought it might happen. -About waist height inside the hedge (pic 1). There were no signs of duck feathers though so I’m hoping perhaps she was away and the foxes only took the eggs… Pic 2 shows the eggs from Thursday’s photo. I should have set the trail camera up when I first saw the nest but didn’t think about it! Will remember next time…

I met a lovely couple who had come over from Australia. Phillip had been supporting Spurs from Sydney since 1967 and this was his first time here. Joe Kinnear would have been a staple in the team during his first 7-8 years as a fan so it was quite poignant that his passing was announced as the match came to a close. R.I.P. Joe. 🙏

Yeah, I am also conflicted about how we know whom to believe. The test does seem less than totally robust as it is based on subjective visual assessment. In other words, it seems a pretty fallible methodology. But if it's imprecise, how are Which giving proportions of bamboo as a result?
One party is massively incentivised for the test to be dross, two incentivised for it to be legit
on the few occasions I've been subscribed to Which? (usually a free trial) I've found their reviews of things I actually know something about (eg tech) to be shallow at best and absolute b******s at worst. Nevertheless, it does raise valid questions about both supply chain monitoring and about the legitimacy of so-called expert reviews.
@dave Indeed. Plus Ethical Consumer Magazine's research is incredibly robust and in-depth that anything they lend their support to is usually deemed very credible. That said nothing is static and the goalposts may have moved since their latest research. It will be interesting to see if anything changes when they next re-examine.

#Heatwaves, #floods, #droughts, #wildfires and rapidly intensifying tropical #cyclones caused misery and mayhem, upending every-day life for millions and inflicting many billions of dollars in economic losses.
The #WMO report confirmed that 2023 was the warmest year on record, with the global average near-surface temperature at 1.45 °Celsius (with a margin of uncertainty of ± 0.12 °C) above the pre-industrial baseline. It was the warmest ten-year period on record.
