Tonight I sat in front of a close friend and watched as they broke down talking about the daily struggle they are facing to get out of their depression. So much pain, so much heartbreak and just getting up each day was a challenge.
I couldn’t help but cry with them. I know exactly what this feels like having gone through it myself. To see someone you love struggling and at their worst and knowing that there is nothing you can do is heartbreaking.
There has been an incredible influx of this beautiful Arctiidae moth here in the UK this Autumn. Crimson Speckled (Utetheisa pulchella) has graced many traps over the past 6 weeks, and lots were found disturbed by day, particularly along coastal areas. I was lucky enough to see this one in Suffolk. Pre-2022 there were around 100 records for the UK. This year alone we must be nearing that figure now.

According to the New York Times, employees at Twitter just began hanging up as #ElonMusk was talking during videoconference call today, apparently deciding to quit before the 5 pm deadline.

Mastodon feels really empty to me so far. And I know it's because I'm not following anybody, but how do I even find anybody to follow? I try using the search, but no matter what I search, whether it's birds or LGBT, I get no results. What am I doing wrong?
Start by putting out an #introduction post, with lots of #hashtags of things that interest you. Boost any posts that you find interesting or amusing, and follow anyone who posts things you like. You should start to see more and more posts that are to your liking, and so the cycle continues. Good luck 🙂
Agreed! Started scaling and rebranding a small business and finding so many barriers to selling in EU that didn't exist pre HARD Brexit. That was never on the ballot and should be the starting point to turn around the many woes exacerbated by the thing we're not meant to talk about.

@vantablue I sometimes think about the title of Stewart Lee's "Content Provider". Great show too, he's very strange but if he works for you he's laugh every time, you'd never be able to explain why.
@wordsmith‽ I couldn't agree more. What is this obsession with follow counts? Maybe I'm wrong but surely it's not all about having an audience. If people just want to be admired, and aren't interested in interacting, then they should naff off back to tweetland.

Usually I don't post things older than the late Palaeolithic period, but #insects embedded in amber never cease to amaze me - the sheer age! This praying #mantis enclosed in amber is some 30 million years old.
In 2016, a well preserved praying mantis preserved in Dominican amber sold at auction for $6,000. The amber dates to the Oligocene period, about 33.9 million to 23 years ago.

About 3 years ago it was found during construction works for wind farm that the whole area was part of a large Anglo Saxon settlement. There’s also a palace remains found, currently under a non disclosure notice… a sophisticated societal structure
I thought this bit was particularly fascinating: “Interestingly, this echoes results obtained in the largest ancient DNA study of Vikings published to date. I've just been reading Cat Jarman's book on the Vikings, River KIngs, showing how extensive their world was - Scandinavia to the Silk Roads. The Dark Ages were neither dark nor isolated.
it shows yet again that ethnicity and culture are not inextricably linked. After all finding a Coca Cola bottle somewhere doesn’t mean there are actual Americans nearby. Culture is customs, language and the way people express themselves in their decorations folklore and ceremonies.
